Welcome to Mowbray Lodge No.5373

We are a diverse Lodge with members from all walks of life and all ages. The breadth of youth, experience and cultures makes for a vibrant, fulfilling, and happy experience. We have a strong core of Senior Past Masters and senior members who proactively support our newer members who are keen to learn. We pride ourselves on quality to make for an interesting and fulfilling evening.

We have been members of the Universities Scheme since 2008, opening Freemasonry to Sunderland University, and we have had interest from students, staff, and alumni since then. Former students and staff have now become senior members within the Lodge. Our membership does not however, only come from the Universities Scheme and we welcome all enquiries.

You will find us committed to ensuring that the membership can develop as Masons, in whatever way you choose.

A 50 Year Certificate Celebration for Albert Gurteen and a Triple Initiation all on the same night

Albert Gurteen celebrates 50 years in Freemasonry and we welcome three new members on the same night

✨ A Night to Remember at Mowbray Lodge ✨

At its February 2025 meeting Mowbray Lodge witnessed a truly historic and memorable evening as we welcomed three new initiates into Freemasonry—Bro. Tom, Bro. Matthew, and Bro. Lewis. Their journey has just begun, and we are honoured to guide them on this path of brotherhood, integrity, and enlightenment.

The night was made even more special by the presence of distinguished guests, including 2 Assistant Provincial Grand Masters WBro’s Clinton Elliot Leeks and Dr Rak Bhalla, the VWBro Deputy Provincial Grand Master John D Watts, United Grand Lodge Officers and numerous Durham Cornerstone 1734 Brethren. Their attendance was a testament to the significance of the occasion and a true honour for our Lodge.

Adding to the prestige of the evening, we had the immense privilege of celebrating Bro. Albert Gurteen’s 50 years in Freemasonry. Reaching this milestone is a remarkable achievement, and it was an honour to witness him receiving his 50-Year Certificate, recognising his dedication, service, and commitment to the Craft.

With a packed Lodge room, an exceptional ceremony, and an atmosphere filled with camaraderie and Masonic spirit, this was a meeting that will be spoken about for years to come.

All retired to the Festive Board which on this occasion was a themed Burns's Night with the traditional  piping in followed by the toast to the Haggis.

To all who attended and contributed to this remarkable evening—thank you! Mowbray Lodge continues to thrive, and the future looks brighter than ever.
