Welcome to Mowbray Lodge No.5373

We are a diverse Lodge with members from all walks of life and all ages. The breadth of youth, experience and cultures makes for a vibrant, fulfilling, and happy experience. We have a strong core of Senior Past Masters and senior members who proactively support our newer members who are keen to learn. We pride ourselves on quality to make for an interesting and fulfilling evening.

We have been members of the Universities Scheme since 2008, opening Freemasonry to Sunderland University, and we have had interest from students, staff, and alumni since then. Former students and staff have now become senior members within the Lodge. Our membership does not however, only come from the Universities Scheme and we welcome all enquiries.

You will find us committed to ensuring that the membership can develop as Masons, in whatever way you choose.

When we meet : First Wednesday, Feb-May & Oct-Dec

A Night of Excellence

Triple Third Degree and Election of Our Master Elect

Mowbray Lodge No. 5373 enjoyed a truly memorable evening on Wednesday, 1st of October 2025, as we witnessed the outstanding delivery of a Triple Third Degree ceremony, followed by our annual elections. The evening showcased everything that makes Mowbray Lodge such a proud and vibrant part of Freemasonry in Durham teamwork, dedication, ritual excellence, and genuine brotherly warmth.

A Triple Third Degree of exceptual quality.

To conduct one Third Degree extremely well is an achievement in itself, but to deliver three in a single evening; each with precision, poise, and feeling, was something truly special.

Our deacons led the work with confidence and care, ensuring the candidates were guided through each stage of the ceremony with dignity and composure. Their calm assurance and clear delivery exemplified the best traditions of Mowbray Lodge.

The officers and past masters who supported the ceremony deserve equal praise. From the opening to the closing, every part of the ritual reflected meticulous preparation and deep understanding. The standard of work was exceptional, and the sense of unity among the brethren was clear for all to see. It was a genuine pleasure to witness such harmony and excellence in action. Our newest Master Masons were also first class, proving their commitment to Freemasonry and the Craft.

Election Night and a Moment of Honour

Following the ceremonies, the Lodge held its annual elections, marking another important milestone in our Masonic year. It was with immense pride that the brethren declared W. Bro. Dr. Rakesh Bhalla, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, as the Master Elect of Mowbray Lodge No. 5373.

This announcement was met with warm applause and sincere congratulations from all present. W. Bro. Bhalla’s dedication to Freemasonry, his leadership within the Province, and his longstanding commitment to Mowbray Lodge make him an exceptional choice to lead us in the coming year.

A Lodge United in Spirit and Purpose

The evening was not only a celebration of ritual excellence but also of the unity, friendship, and shared purpose that define Mowbray Lodge. Our newer members saw a fine example of what it means to work together as a Lodge family, and our experienced brethren demonstrated once again the strength and stability that come from dedication and preparation.

As we look ahead to our installation meeting in November, we do so with pride in our achievements and confidence in our future. Mowbray Lodge continues to exemplify the very best of Freemasonry; brotherhood, learning, and service, all delivered with warmth, humility, and good humour.

In Closing

To all who took part, assisted, or simply attended to support, thank you. The spirit and skill shown throughout the evening reminded us why Mowbray Lodge remains such a special place to call home. Mowbray Lodge No. 5373 once again proved that excellence in Freemasonry is not an accident, it is the result of dedication, teamwork, and a shared love of the Craft.
