About Mowbray Lodge

We are a diverse Lodge with members from all walks of life and all ages. The breadth of youth, experience and cultures makes for a vibrant, fulfilling, and happy experience. We have a strong core of Senior Past Masters and senior members who proactively support our newer members who are keen to learn. We pride ourselves on our ritual, delivered with skill, to make for an interesting and fulfilling evening.

We have been members of the Universities Scheme since 2008, opening Freemasonry to Sunderland University, and we have had interest from students, staff, and alumni since then. Former students and staff have now become senior members within the Lodge, and we look forward to supporting them and watching them grow. Our membership does not however, only come from the Universities Scheme and we welcome all enquiries.

You will find us committed to ensuring that the membership can develop as Masons, in whatever way they choose, facilitated by strong friendships, pride in our reputation and our commitment to Freemasonry.

Mowbray Lodge at Sunderland University Freshers Fair

On Wednesday 26th September 2018 , Octavian, Martin and I had the pleasure of attending the Sunderland University Fresher Fayre on behalf of Mowbray Lodge. The day started at 7am for us as we each prepared for ND played our part in what was to be a long but very enjoyable day.

We arrived at 8am to set up our stall to showcase what Freemasonry had to offer. With the     support of literature from the Provincial Office and Banners supplied by WBro Michael Wilkinson of Surtees Lodge we were able to engage and talk about our organisation with a wide variety of students and staff members who had attended on the day.

We showcased our new website, the role of Freemasonry in personal development, the long history of Freemasonry (having recently celebrated our tercentenary) and the central role of benevolence in a Freemason’s heart.

We answered some varied and interesting questions ranging from criteria for joining to questions about the role of Freemasonry in local history to which charities are supported by the Freemasons of Durham.

We were able to inform all the students and staff who expressed an interest in joining or who were more than curious that the Masonic Hall at Burdon Road Sunderland was holding an open day on Saturday 27th October 2018. There there will be an opportunity for them to meet again with Octavian, Martin and I to view the Hall and to ask any further questions they have about Freemasonry in general or Mowbray Lodge in particular.

The Open Day is scheduled from 10.00 to 15.00. However Octavian, Martin and Rak will be available to meet with University students and staff between 11.00 - 11.30 in the foyer.

We look forward to meeting as many people as are able to attend on the day
