Member Profile - Obinna Kingsley Osochukwu

Obinna, who is also known as Obi by friends and family currently lives in Sunderland. He is happily married and has a daughter. Obi works for the NHS at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

He was born in Nigeria and moved to England more than 10 years ago. He graduated from the University of Sunderland (London Campus) for his Bachelor’s degree and subsequently moved to Sunderland in 2017 to pursue his Post Graduate degree in Public Health.

Obi first heard about Freemasonry while he was living in London and tried joining then but it didn’t happen. Whilst at Sunderland University he met members of Mowbray lodge who were at the University during the Student’s Freshers Fair and subsequently enquired about joining.
Luckily in March 2019, Obi was initiated into Mowbray Lodge.

My interest in joining Freemasonry was as a result of a combination of personal research and a through a friend who I knew was a Freemason. I was particularly drawn to Freemasonry when I found out about the true friendship and charity part of the organisation. Growing up, these two attributes had always stood out for me and knowing there is an organisation that can offer me that opportunity made my decision to join Freemasonry very easy.

On becoming a Freemason, I equally discovered that Freemasonry does not end in friendship and charity. I began to understand how Freemasonry can make a good man better and also support personal development associated with being a Freemason. One thing I noticed about Freemasonry is that it doesn’t matter about your social status, religion, race or any other quality; everyone is equal and I have seen this play out in many of my encounters with other members.

Obi is a very sociable person who enjoys the company of others a lot. He loves to watch football and that has become his hobby aside learning how to play piano.

Obi says; ‘Since joining Freemasonry, it has helped me a lot to rediscover myself and also made me increasingly aware of my duties to my fellow man and Society. I would encourage you to ask about joining Freemasonry if you want to discover more about being a just and upright man’.
